Kokanee Salmon Moved Over Obstacles to Press On To Create New Life

Press on Toward the Goal for the Prize – New Life

In the later part of September I was blessed to see Kokanee salmon gathering and moving upstream to spawn in Wyoming. They do not move independently as in a race where there is only one winner. It seems that they start pooling in the lake where they still feed. Then they press on into the stream and seek to pair-up with a partner. They continue to move, individually and in small groups, to the next level of the stream, with unity of purpose. The first ones to move through the next shallow area appear to be an encouragement to the next to press on.  I like these scenes as a picture of the the Christian life.

Go out in joy as mountains sing and trees clap

In God’s light, ones eyes can see these signs in creation to appear like a great choir and orchestra performing Handel’s Messiah. “Hallelujah! for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth. The Kingdom of this world is become the Kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ: and He shall reign for ever and ever. King of kings, Lord of lords.”

Ever-flowing Water of life

The continuous flowing of God’s works is life: goodness, righteousness, steadfast love, mercy, power, might, dominion, kindness, nearness and saving preservation (Psalm 145). From righteousness one experiences peace, quietness, and trust forever (Isaiah 32:17). Praise God’s name forever and ever.

Blue Butterflies Tell Us about God

The Melissa Blue butterfly has a wing span of only about 3 cm and its wing edges are lined with hairs. Fine hairs connected to nerves help the tiny creatures sense the wind, temperature, and position to enable successful flights. The white outline of hairs around a blend of colors in the butterfly wings also adds to the creature’s beauty. Praise God for His goodness.

Call to Holiness & Godliness Illustrated by Wildflowers

Recognizing our imperfections, we pursue godliness. Consider the transformation of a seed to a plant, buds, and unfolded flowers. The seed can not fulfill its purposes by only sprouting. So it is for us. It is not enough to experience the new birth. Alive unto God, we pursue godliness; endeavoring to pray, hear the Word preached, and participate in the sacraments. Seeking to renew our minds, we meditate on God’s Word and affirm it.
